The publications of the year 1788 have some of them been fingularly important and honourable to our country. The merit of our compatriots has kindled our zeal for their fame, and it is hoped, that, both in our Hiftory of Literature, and ftill more in the extracts we have given, the amusement and information of the reader will be proportionable,
